Semir Šerić is today a state judge of Bosnia and Herzegovina and has been judging at major competitions in Zagreb, Maribor, Split, Budva, Podgorica, Tirana... He is a member of the judging panel for Latin and standard dances of sports couples, LA- and ST-formations, and solo dances. But the road to this point was not easy...
Semir comes from Zenica. In his youth, he had two hobbies: basketball and dance. As he likes to say, basketball soon ended up on the rubbish heap of his hobbies, while he has remained loyal to dance since he was 13 years old.
Because he was enthusiastic about the movies Grease and Saturday Night Fever, he was given the nickname 'Zenica's John Travolta' at a young age.
In 1993, he founded the dance school Shadows, which has become his most important life's work in 31 years. Through his hands have passed more than 17,000 dancers. Among them were 20 national champions, they won more than 500 medals, and three times they represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at the World Championship. Perić recalls that there were also difficult times in between, and due to financial difficulties, they were unable to attend the biggest competition twice.
He is especially proud of his collaboration with the Bosnian National Theater Zenica, where as a choreographer, he participated in more than 30 performances for children and adults.
He is particularly proud of the Zenica Cuban Weekend, which in 2020 managed to attract the best dance instructors from Novi Sad, Belgrade, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Podgorica, and of course, Maribor. A mini Yugoslavia.
On the portal Klikx.ba, Šerić recently said: 'Many people come to me on a doctor's recommendation. Dance is healing both physically and mentally. It strengthens the spirit and overcomes stress.'
That's why Šerić will also have a special workshop on Cuban Rueda for couples. It will surely be interesting!
