Matevž Česen is considered one of Slovenia's most successful professional dancers, choreographers, coaches, and judges. His numerous national, European, and world titles attest to this, so it's no wonder the whole world follows him.

He first encountered dance at the age of five, which grew into serious sports training. As a member of the Slovenian national team, he achieved numerous titles at European and world competitions. After completing primary school, from 2000 to 2004, he attended the Artistic Gymnasium with a focus on contemporary dance, where he delved deeper into artistic creation. It was there that he officially earned the title of dancer.

He then further developed his dance skills at the London Studio Center, where from 2006 to 2009 in London, UK, he graduated with honors and became a professional dancer. There, he also gained insight into singing and acting. In 2009, in collaboration with the Dance Association of Slovenia and the Faculty of Sport, he successfully completed training to become a sports coach for modern competitive dances, and a year later, he became a dance judge.

As a choreographer and dancer, he participates in various events, galas, national celebrations, television shows, live performances, music videos, advertising campaigns, fashion shows, and concerts alongside many popular local singers and groups. He co-creates numerous roles in dance, theater, and puppet shows as both a dancer and a choreographer.

He has won 10 national, 4 European, and 4 world championships. He received the Povodni mož award for the best individual dancer and was recognized as the most versatile dancer. He concluded his decade-long competitive career with an award for the best dance piece at the North American Dance Championships in New York, USA.

For over 10 years, he has worked as a coach for sports dance with competitive dancers who participate in competitions and festivals. His team consistently ranks at the top in international competitions. He has been repeatedly voted the best educator and choreographer for his ability to inspire.


Matevž Česen

In 2014, he received the prestigious recognition from the Slovenian Olympic Committee as a coach.

In 2016, the Slovenian Dance Association awarded him for being the choreographer with the most medals at European and world competitions.

In 2018, he received an award from the Ljubljana Sports Association for his 10 years of work in amateur sports. That same year, he made history when his team won in all categories in show dance at the World Championship.

In 2019, he was honored by the City of Ljubljana and the Slovenian Dance Association for his significant contribution to Slovenia's recognition on the world dance map.

In 2019 and 2020, his team won the main prize at the IDO Gala World Event “best of the best,” competing against world champions in various disciplines and categories from the largest dance organization in the world, IDO.

The Slovenian Dance Association also awarded him a special prize for Choreographer of the Year in 2019.

In 2020, he received Slovenia's highest national award, the Bloudek Plaque, for his significant contribution to the development of Slovenian sports. That same year, the largest international dance organization, IDO, inducted him into the Dance Hall of Fame with an award for outstanding choreographer and coach.

Česen continues to travel extensively and perform across Europe and the world. He organizes workshops, dance classes, and seminars, and he lectures as a coach and choreographer. He also teaches at the dance academy in Ljubljana.

And to top it off, Matevž Česen will also be a judge at Rolly Dance Open 2024 on the 24th, 25th, and 26th. Who knows, perhaps he'll discover some new dance talents among the performers...
